German manufacturer Pinion introduces a revolution in e-bikes: The Pinion MGU Motor.Gearbox.Unit

This revolutionary mid-motor for e-bikes combines the best of both worlds: a powerful brushless mid-motor with an internal, maintenance-friendly Pinion gearbox offering a choice of 9 or 12 gears in one.

The Pinion MGU has a peak power of 600 watts and torque of 85 Nm, with the engine being able to deliver up to 160 Nm of torque to the rear wheel in the smallest 4 gears.

With a motor weighing just 4 kilos and positioned stably in the center, this is the ideal e-bike for challenging mountain climbs (both with and without a heavy load). But it also handles fantastically on flat terrain.

What's unique is that at Jongerius you can put together your Pinion MGU e-bike entirely to your wishes and we will custom-build it for you in Vleuten.

PINION MGU E-BIKE MID ENGINE MADE IN GERMANY

The Pinion MGU's central positioning in the bike's center provides stable handling and ideal weight distribution under all conditions. The central placement of both the engine and gears, along with the use of thru-axles, makes wheel removal easy (in case of a flat, for example).

Pinion manufactures the MGU motor in Denkendorf, Germany, according to the highest quality standards. Since 2012, Pinion has been developing high-quality gearboxes for more than 100 bicycle brands worldwide.

Because both the motor and gears are integrated into a single unit, shifting is seamless, both under load and from a standstill. Furthermore, the motor doesn't create any additional resistance when cycling with e-bike assistance. The resistance of the Pinion MGU motor is comparable to that of a traditional Pinion gearbox.

The Pinion MGU is unique and has a higher torque at the rear wheel than, for example, a Bosch Performance CX or Brose Mag Se mid-drive motor. In terms of noise level, the MGU is comparable to these two competing e-bike motors.

At Jongerius, we install the latest-generation Pinion MGU motor, which is significantly quieter than the first generation. Furthermore, the Pinion MGU mid-motor has a longer lifespan (approximately 100,000 km) than Bosch or Shimano motors, and Pinion offers repair options in Germany.

The 9-speed Pinion MGU E1.9 Motor/Gearbox Unit has a range of 568% and increments of 24.3% per gear, meaning the heaviest gear is 5.68 times heavier than the lowest gear. This makes the bike ideal for use in both hilly and flat conditions. For comparison: a 30-speed derailleur system has a range of 573%.

The Pinion MGU E1.12 Motor.Gearbox.Unit with 12 gears has a range of 600% and steps of 17.7% per gear, this means that the heaviest gear is 6 times as heavy as the lightest gear

The great thing about the Pinion Gearbox is that all steps between the gears are the same and there are no overlapping gears as with a derailleur system.

Electronic Shifting with the Pinion te1 Trigger Shifter

Manual electronic shifting with the Pinion MGU is lightning fast with the Pinion TE1 Smart.Shift trigger shifter.

With the Start.Select function automatically shifts the bike back to a pre-selected starting gear so that, for example, you can automatically ride away from a traffic light in a comfortable gear.

Do you choose the Pre.Select With this function, the bike automatically shifts as soon as you stop your feet. The bike does this based on your speed and pre-selected cadence.

Do you choose the Auto.Select function, the bike shifts completely automatically based on your chosen cadence and this can be done both under load and when stationary.

pINION DISPLAY INTEGRATED INTO TOP TUBE

We've chosen to equip our Pinion MGU e-bikes with a Fit Master Node e-bike display, which is neatly integrated into the top tube of the bike frame. The display is easily operated from your handlebars with the Fit Remote Pure.,

By placing it in the top tube, you free up space on your handlebars and the display is less susceptible to damage.

This control unit allows you to easily turn the bike on or off and select your desired level of assistance. You'll also see important information like speed and range, all easily accessible.

If desired, you can also opt for a more comprehensive display, which we can mount on the handlebars. Alternatively, you can use the Drive screen in the Fit app on your phone as an additional display.

THE SUPPORT MODES OF THE PINION MGU

The Pinion MGU offers four levels of support: Eco, Flow, Flex, and Fly. Fly is the highest level of support and Eco the lowest.

The Flow and Flex modes are adaptive and dynamically adjust the support based on the pedal pressure supplied.

The special boost start-up aid button allows you to give the bike an extra boost in all support modes (except Fly), for example when riding away from a standstill.

The system also features a walk function that you can use when walking next to your bike while climbing a mountain or when walking up from an underground bicycle shed.

Connection with the Pinion Fit E-bike app

You can adjust the support level for each mode via the Fit app. Here, you can adjust the assist ratio, maximum torque, elasticity, and torque characteristics for Eco, Flow, Flex, and Fly modes.

You can also activate the Digital Key in the app. With the Digital Key, you can lock the components of the e-bike system while parking, preventing the e-bike's support from working until you unlock it again via the app.

The app also has a link with Komoot and you can navigate via the app. In drive screen mode you can use a phone in combination with the app as a display for your e-bike.

To charge your phone battery while cycling, you can choose the SP-Connect E-cap wireless phone charger. Your phone battery will then charge wirelessly via your e-bike battery.

PINION FIT DRIVE SCREEN, USE YOUR PHONE AS AN E-BIKE DISPLAY WITH NAVIGATION

It Pinion Fit Drive Screen In combination with the compact Fit Master Node display, beautifully integrated into the frame, your smartphone turns into a clear and full-fledged display for your e-bike with Pinion MGU.

While cycling, you'll immediately see all essential ride data, such as speed, distance, battery level, remaining range, and the selected support level. The clear screen provides an optimal overview, allowing you to fully focus on the road.

You can easily operate the Fit Drive Screen on your phone with the remote on the handlebars, so you can use your phone without taking your hands off the handlebars.

With the integrated navigation function, including turn-by-turn directions, you can easily use your phone as a route display on the handlebars. Ideal for commuting and leisurely trips.

Thanks to the Geo-Range function, you can check in advance whether the battery capacity is sufficient for your planned route, so you won't encounter any surprises and can choose an alternative route if necessary, for example on a steep mountain climb.

PINION MGU FIT BATTERY AND EXTRA FIT RANGE EXTENDER

Our e-bikes with MGU motors come standard with a 535 Wh intube battery, which is neatly integrated into the frame. For an additional fee, you can upgrade this to an 800 Wh battery, allowing you to ride more kilometers on a single charge.

For the real mileage eaters, it is possible to mount an additional external Fit Buddypack range extender of 240 Wh so that in combination with the intube 800 Wh battery you have a total of 1040 Wh of power available.

The Pinion E-Drive system uses the latest generation of lithium-ion battery cells and features an intelligent battery management system that protects the batteries against overload and potential malfunctions and problems.

All batteries can be charged in the bike via a charging port, so the battery doesn't need to be removed. If you live in an apartment or don't have a power outlet near your bike, you can easily remove the battery with the included key to the battery lock.

We supply a 3 amp charger which can be upgraded to a faster 4.8 amp charger for a small additional charge.

EVERY MGU GEARBOX
TESTED FOR INSTALLATION

Because Pinion works to the highest quality standards, every MGU Gearbox is extensively tested before it leaves the factory in Germany and is mounted on your dream bike in the Netherlands.

Pinion also has its own service center, so if anything goes wrong with your MGU engine, the experts in Germany are ready to service your gearbox and get you back on the road quickly.

At the Pinion Care Service Center You can also come to us (for a fee) for repairs to your Gearbox after the statutory warranty period has expired.

MAINTENANCE AND WARRANTY OF A PINION MGU ENGINE

The Pinion MGU Motor.Gearbox.Unit is very durable and easy to maintain, requiring significantly less maintenance than a comparable bicycle with a derailleur system.

If the MGU gearbox is new, you'll need to break it in and change the oil for the first time after 1,200-2,000 km. After that, it only needs to be topped up with 125 ml of new Pinion MGU oil every 10,000 kilometers.

Please note: The oil for the Pinion MGU is different from the oil used in regular (non-electric) P- and C-line gearboxes.

Furthermore, the MGU Gearbox requires no maintenance.

The warranty on a Pinion MGU gearbox is 2 years. If you pay for the warranty at the end of the warranty period, Pinion Care have it done via Pinion, then they extend the warranty on the MGU by 2 years.

Jongerius e-bike with PINION MGU motor

New to our collection is the Jongerius Pinion MGU E-bike. Just like all our other bikes, this one can be fully customized.

The Pinion MGU e-bike combines a powerful Pinion MGU mid-motor with a Pinion gearbox in a single unit. This low-maintenance and powerful mid-motor delivers 85 Nm of torque, with a peak torque of up to 160 Nm.

This model complements our existing Pinion e-bike with the Neodrives rear-wheel motor. The Neodrives rear-wheel motor is a completely silent e-bike rear-wheel motor. The Pinion MGU mid-motor is comparable in sound to a Bosch mid-motor but has a much longer lifespan.

We install the latest-generation Pinion MGU engine as standard, which is considerably quieter than the first-generation engine. Experience it for yourself during a free test drive!
