That's why we've been passionately crafting handmade bicycles and e-bikes in our workshop in Vleuten, near Utrecht, since 2018. Jongerius Bicycle Makers since 1998

We are Jongerius, artisan bicycle makers since 1998. When, towards the end of the 1990s, horticulture in Vleuten had to make way for the development of a large-scale new building in the Leidsche Rijn neighborhood, we, a family of horticulturalists from Vleuten, began focusing on bicycle sales and repairs. While most manufacturers have increasingly focused on mass and low-cost production, we chose to build only bicycles that meet the highest quality standards.

The building in Vleuten (Utrecht) that Grandpa Jongerius used in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s as a garden shed for the horticultural business behind it now houses the Jongerius Test Center. We also hand-assemble Jongerius bicycles and e-bikes at this location. The greenhouses behind the Jongerius Test Center have all been demolished to make way for the Leidsche Rijn housing development, the creation of a sports park with a gym, and the unique Maxima Park.

The historic Jongerius building on the edge of Maxima Park remains, completely restored to its former glory in 2018 and equipped with all modern technology. Now you can visit us by appointment to test, assemble, or service your Jongerius bike. Our test track is 8 kilometers long.

At Jongerius Handmade Bicycles, we choose not to mass-produce our bicycles in cheap countries. All Jongerius bicycles and e-bikes are hand-built by a single mechanic in Vleuten, the Netherlands, to the highest quality standards.

Nico Jongerius and his wife, Corry, are taking over a bicycle shop and workshop from Rijwielhuis Evert vd Kant. This business, located in Utrecht's Oog in Al district, has been in business since 1923 and initially operated under the name de Groot fietsen.
January 1, 2000

2000

Son John Jongerius joined his father Nico in the business at the age of 18 after working at another bicycle shop for two years.
April 1, 2008

2008

John Jongerius takes over the bicycle shop in the Oog in al district of Utrecht from his parents and the first employees are hired.
December 1, 2011

2011

The store is expanding and focusing on sports bikes by adding a second location in Utrecht (on the same street). In addition to the Gazelle and Sparta dealerships, this will also include dealerships for Trek, Bulls, Cannondale, and Batavus.

Both stores merged into a single, large new building just outside Utrecht on the Strijkviertel in De Meern. That same year, the name changed from Jonico Your Bicycle Specialist to Jonico Bicycle Megastore.

Due to continued high demand, the store expanded by moving into the adjacent building, making Jonico Fietsmegastore the largest bike shop in Utrecht. This 1400 m² Fietsmegastore sells bikes from Gazelle, Sparta, Batavus, Trek, Cube, Cannondale, Riese & Müller, and Stromer.

Launch of sales of custom-made Jongerius bicycles, manufactured in Germany to the highest standards. A Premium collection is also available, hand-built in the Netherlands by a single mechanic.

Due to the growth of Jongerius Handmade Bicycles, John Jongerius has decided to sell the shop in De Meern and continue independently in Vleuten as a small bicycle manufacturer, selling only Jongerius-branded bicycles. After this step, customers will be able to visit by appointment only, allowing Jongerius to truly dedicate time to each customer, elevating the brand to an even higher level.

Jongerius is ceasing production in Germany and choosing to hand-build all its bicycles in Vleuten. Jongerius is also starting to produce its own unique By Jongerius parts, which are manufactured in the Netherlands.

The Jongerius Rohloff Premium Beltdrive has been nominated for the title of Bike of the Year 2021 by the RAI Association's expert jury. An expert, independent jury evaluated and field-tested numerous bicycles over the past month. The judging process was based on the bicycle's intended use, or its suitability for the target group. To reach a positive final assessment, the jury considered: construction and finish, standard equipment, design and styling, originality and innovation, safety, handling/comfort, materials used, price/quality ratio, and the bicycle's "x-factor." The expert jury consists of experts and experienced professionals, including editors from Fiets, Fietsactief, ANWB Media, Tweewieler, NieuwsFiets.nu, and Bike Europe.

Jongerius Handmade Bicycles continues to grow, and currently sells primarily bicycles from Santos, Idworx, and Koga. These bicycles are all custom-built by hand in Vleuten by a single mechanic. Jongerius is also developing more and more of its own By Jongerius components, which are designed by Jongerius himself.

The Jongerius TravL Pinion wins the title of Bicycle of the Year 2023. The jury, consisting of Bovag, ANWB, and Fietsactief, wrote the following about this bike: "Every detail has been carefully considered, and the handling also demonstrates that the bike has been carefully and lovingly assembled. Ready for many kilometers in the Netherlands and far beyond." The unisex bike's appearance also reveals that this is a special bike. Shifting is smooth thanks to the elegant combination of the Pinion gearbox and the belt drive, and the frame construction also makes the latter easy to replace. A beautiful example of Dutch craftsmanship!
