Fietsactief magazine went out with the Jongerius TravL Pinion Belt Drive. You can read the results of their test here:
BY MEANS OF EDITORIAL STAFF FIETSACTIEF ON TEST RIDE TREKKING BIKES & HYBRIDS
In each edition of FietsAcief, technical editor Menno Grootjans tests a number of bicycles in the Test Ride section. From e-bikes to speed pedelecs to trekking bikes. Here we list the trekking bikes and hybrids. This is the Jongerius Pinion Premium Beltdrive trekking bike:‘A modern holiday bike at a competitive price‘.

Ultra-modern, high-quality finish and a character all of its own
Jongerius travl pinion belt drive
What's that bump near the crankset? No, that's not a mid-drive motor, but a gearbox. Just like in your car, right? This Dutch trekking bike is ultra-modern, has a high-quality finish, and a unique character.
This is a bike for seasoned holiday cyclists who prefer to invest euros in their bike rather than in a all-inclusive under the palm trees. Their vacation begins the moment they lock the front door at night – from outside.
Driving characteristics
The first thing you notice is the wide, slightly angled handlebars in front of you – with robust Ergon grips with bar ends (like "ox heads") on both the left and right sides. These are convenient because they give you a slightly different grip on the handlebars – and the more positions you have on such a long journey, the better. After just two pedal strokes, you'll feel: this is a very stable bike that just begs to be decked out with panniers. It rides well and doesn't feel nervous at all. It's no stoplight sprinter, but then again, an expedition bike isn't built for that. You select your gear and turn into the road.
How does shifting work with that gearbox? The Pinion gear system works smoothly and quickly, although you'll probably need some time to get used to the twist grip: it's a bit stiffer than a derailleur shifter. You can also feel the difference between the chain and the belt. A chain is metal on metal, while the plastic of the drive belt is a bit softer. With a Pinion, you can shift one, two, or more gears at a time.

Model & technology
Jongerius has an XXL collection for riders who normally can't find a suitable bike. There are bikes with frame sizes up to 67 centimeters for women and even 73 centimeters for men. The sporty bikes are available in sizes up to 65 centimeters for women and 70 centimeters for men (for riders up to 2.15 meters tall). Our test bike is also available in XXL. This is simply a size 55 centimeter: it weighs just under 18 kilos and costs €4,799.
The bike has an aluminum frame, an oversized aluminum fork, and a higher-set chainstay. This eliminates the need for a frame opening for the belt. It has numerous mounting points for racks, bottle cages, or bags. All cables are externally routed, making it easy to replace a broken brake line or cable yourself. Schwalbe G-One 57-millimeter folding tires are mounted on the hand-spoked wheels. The bike also features Magura disc brakes, Tubus racks, and a Terry saddle. It has a total weight capacity of 200 kilograms.
Remarkable
For this bike, you can choose a Pinion C1.12 or P1.18. The C1.12 has 12 gears, with 17.7% gear increments. The difference between the largest and smallest gear is 600%, which is ideal for Dutch conditions. Heading into the mountains? Then choose the P1.18, with a 636% gear range and 11.5% gear increments.
A major advantage over a chain is that a Pinion is unaffected by water and dirt, as all moving parts are housed within the aluminum housing. An oil bath provides lubrication. You'll need to change the oil once a year, or after 10,000 kilometers. Pinion offers a five-year warranty.
